Mantic
The True Sweetness of Wine is One Flavor
Who are we?
We are a small, family-run winery with a deep passion for producing natural wines. Winery Mantič was officially established in 2012, but the winemaking tradition dates back to 1936, when our great-grandfather received land from Earl Szecsenyi and planted the first vineyard on the Čierna Hora hill in the village of Čerhov.
Each bottle of our wine is crafted with love and meticulous care. Our approach to winemaking blends technical expertise with artistry. We do not standardize any of our wines, and no fixed recipe guides our process — every wine is a unique expression of our philosophy.
Toto je naše víno
In our winery, you will mostly find varietal wines, which include wines made from Tokaj grape varieties such as Furmint, Lipovina, and Yellow Muscat. We also offer Zéta, Welschriesling, Soreli (PIWI), and the red variety Dunaj.
Furmint and Lipovina are usually made in the same way at our winery. There are two possible methods. The first is to produce them as orange wines through long skin maceration. The second method is to make the wine using the sur-lie technique. These wines then mature in barrels, either in barriques (225L) or larger oak barrels of 500L. We also produce orange wines using qvevri. Yellow Muscat and Welschriesling are typically made in a fresh, sweet style. We produce Pét-Nat either from Furmint or Yellow Muscat. Dunaj is made using the traditional method for red wines, which involves maceration on the skins followed by aging in oak barrels. Sometimes it also ages in a qvevri. We also make sweet botrytized or straw wines from Lipovina, Furmint, Zéta, and Dunaj.
Vineyards are the key to making great wines
Our vineyards are located only on the Černá Hora hill. Currently, we have vineyards in the village of Čerhov, in the Tokaj wine region. They are located on the southwest side. Čierna Hora is one of the northernmost subregions of the entire Tokaj area, which ensures enough acidity in the grapes and provides airflow, important for reducing disease pressure. The soil is of volcanic origin. We maintain our vineyards under an integrated farming system, but we incorporate as many biodynamic practices as possible, including minimal use of sprays throughout the year, a lot of manual labor in the vineyard, and the maintenance of green cover crops by sowing herbs between the vine rows.
